John Henry was born on December 9th, 1825 in Nova Scotia, Canada.  John Henry's father was John Higgs and his mother was Ellenor Cove.  His maternal grandparents were Henry Cobb and Elizabeth Chapman. He had four brothers and a sister, named Edward, William H., Abijah Cove, Joseph and Frances Amelia.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 80 on November 24th, 1906 in Crystal,Aroostook County,Maine.
