Edward was born on January 9th, 1816 in Windem Hill/Collingwoood Corners, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Edward's father was John Higgs and his mother was Ellenor Cove.  His maternal grandparents were Henry Cobb and Elizabeth Chapman. He had four brothers and a sister, named William H., John Henry, Abijah Cove, Joseph and Frances Amelia.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 75 on June 12th, 1891 in Collingwood Corners, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
