Carol was born on July 3rd, 1947 in Bald Hills, Brisbane, Queensland.  Carol's father was Henry Peter Nelson and her mother was Gwendoline Mary Elizabeth Adamson.  Her paternal grandparents were Christopher Johann Neilson and Minnie Sommerfield; her maternal grandparents were George Adamson and Elizabeth McBrien. She had a brother named David.  She is the younger of the two children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Reginald, Leslie and Joyce.
