William II, known as Rufus, was born in 1056. Rufus' father was William I “The Conqueror” (King of England) and his mother was Matilda (Maud) of Flanders.  His paternal grandparents were Robert I “The Magnificent” (6th Duke of Normandy) and Herleva de Falaise; his maternal grandparents were Baldwin V “The Bearded” (Count of Flanders) and Adele of France. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Robert, Beauclerc, Constance and Adela.  He was the second oldest of the five known children.  He died at the age of 44 in 1100.
