Walter was born in 1864. Walter's father was Rev. Walter Shirley and his mother was Philippa Knight. His paternal grandparents were Rev. Walter Shirley and Maria Waddington. He was an only child. He died at the age of 83 in 1947.General Notes
Walter Knight Shirley, 11th Earl Ferrers was born on 5 June 1864.
He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He was an architect.1 He succeeded to the title of 11th Viscount Tamworth, of co. Stafford [G.B., 1711] on 26 July 1912.2 He succeeded to the title of 17th Baronet Shirley, of Staunton Harold [E., 1611] on 26 July 1912.1 He succeeded to the title of 11th Earl Ferrers [G.B., 1711] on 26 July 1912.2
