Louis, known as The German, was born in 0810.  The German's father was Louis “The Pious” (King of the Franks; Emperor) and his mother was Ermengarde of Hesbaye.  His paternal grandparents were Charlemagne (King of the Franks; Emperor) and Hildegard of Vinzgouw; his maternal grandfather was Ingeram of Hesbaye. He had a half-brother named The Bald.  He died at the age of 66 in 0876.
