Louis, known as The Pious, was born in 0778.  The Pious' father was Charlemagne (King of the Franks; Emperor) and his mother was Hildegard of Vinzgouw.  His paternal grandparents were Pepin “The Short” (King of the Franks; Emperor) and Bertrada of Laon.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 62 in 0840.
