William's father was Sir John D'Oyly (2nd Baronet Chislehampton) and his mother was Susanna Putt. His paternal grandparents were Sir John D'Oyly (1st Baronet Chislehampton) and Margaret Cholmeley; his maternal grandparents were Sir Thomas Putt (Baronet) and Ursula Cholmeley. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, Ursula and Cholmley.General Notes
