William was born in 1591.  William's father was Robert Cecil (1st Earl of Salisbury) and his mother was Elizabeth Brooke.  His paternal grandparents were William Cecil (1st Baron Burghley) and Mildred Cooke. He had a sister named Frances.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 77 in 1668.
