Robert was born on April 8th, 1895.  Robert's father was Samuel Naftaly Hertz Sandler and his mother was Annie (Annie ) Leah Katz.  His paternal grandparents were Aaron Sandler and Sarah; his maternal grandfather was Joseph Katz and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had two brothers and a sister, named Louis, Albert and Rose.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 87 on May 20th, 1982 in Port Elizabeth.  He was buried at the Port Elizabeth Jewish Cemetery.¹

  Owned 3 Sport, Arms and Ammunitions Bicycle shops. One of the store was located in corner of End Street and 223 Commissioner Street in Johannesburg and later owned an Arms and Ammunition and Sports goods store in Germiston opposite to the Germiston Town Hall.
  
  During World War 2 volunter to the South African Air Force and served in the 24 Squadron SAAF.Served as Air Mechanic in Cairo and visited Palestine.
  
  Robert based in Port Elizabeth Airbase so his family moved to Port Elizabeth next to him (1944). The main reason for moving was Sylvia's Health Condition. Owned a bicycle shop in Walmer Road, Port Elizabeth (South End).
  
  Lived in Port Elizabeth in 59 Viellers Road (Walmer). Later (1961) Lived in 1 6th Avenue, Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth.
