Susannah's children were born at Newsome, between Lockwood and Berry Brow. Susannah was only 27 when her first husband died at Newsome in 1817. She probably remarried John Hirst in 1818. Her children would have been brought up by John.

Son George left home to become a School Master at Newsome. He later lived with his cousin.
Daughter Rebecca married in 1835.
