Robert's father was William Richardson and his mother was Elizabeth Caughlin. His paternal grandparents were Robert Buchan (Richardson) and Catherine Harrison. He had four brothers and a sister, named William, Thomas, George, Harold and Robert. He was the fourth oldest of the six children. He died at 6 months old in September 1894 in Bolton.¹
