Harold was born in 1895 in Tonge-with-Haulgh.1  Harold's father was William Richardson and his mother was Elizabeth Caughlin.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Buchan (Richardson) and Catherine Harrison. He had four brothers and a sister, named William, Thomas, George, Robert and Robert.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.
