William Mather

William was born in 1762 in Turton and his baptism took place on August 29th, 1762 at Walmsley Presbyterian.

William's father was Peter Mather and his mother was Ellen Howarth.  His paternal grandparents were Peter Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Cranshaw; his maternal grandparents were George Howarth and Ellen Greenhalgh. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Richard, Thomas, Thomas, James, Peter, John, Ellen and Margaret.  He was the oldest of the nine known children.  He died at the age of 72 in January 1834 in Bolton.  He was buried on January 27th, 1834 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹
