Mary's father was John Mather and her mother was Lelitia (Loah) Crankshaw. Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Coup. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Edwin, Alfred, John, Frederick, William, Elizabeth and Mary. She had a foster brother named Edwin. She died at 8 months old in March 1852 in Bolton. Her burial was on April 1st, 1852 at St. Mary (Deane).²²
