Mary was born in 1813 in Levenshulme and her baptism took place on July 25th, 1813 in Heaton Norris.1  Mary's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Margaret Robinson. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Joseph, Henry, William, Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth, Esther and Margaret.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.
