Mary was born in 1748 in Heath Charnock and her baptism took place on February 14th, 1748 in Rivington.1  Mary's father was Ralph Mather and her mother was Ann Anderton.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Margaret Kellett. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, James, Ralph, Ann, Betty and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 57 in April 1805 in Wigan.  She was buried on April 29th, 1805 in Wigan.2
