Betty was born in 1741 in Anderton and her baptism took place on November 13th, 1741 in Rivington.1  Betty's father was Ralph Mather and her mother was Ann Anderton.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Margaret Kellett. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, James, Ralph, Ann, Elizabeth and Mary.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
