Elizabeth was born on December 25th, 1719 in Turton and her baptism took place on December 27th, 1719 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Elizabeth's father was James Knowles and her mother was Agnes Bertwistle. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin, John, Jane, Alice and Agnes.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
