Matilda was born in June 1856 R Cliviger & Mereclough.1  Matilda's father was James Hargreaves and her mother was Mary Slater.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Hargreaves and Jane (Jenny) Whitaker; her maternal grandparents were <unknown> and Elizabeth (Betty) Slater. She had five brothers and five sisters, named John, William, Benjamin, Thomas, Eliza, Jane, Ann, Susannah, Sarah and Mary.  She was the youngest of the eleven children.
