John Hargreaves

John was born in 1831 R Cliviger & Mereclough and his baptism took place on May 15th, 1831 in Clayton-le-Moors.¹²

John's father was James Hargreaves and his mother was Mary Slater. His paternal grandparents were Henry Hargreaves and Jane (Jenny) Whitaker; his maternal grandparents were <unknown> and Elizabeth (Betty) Slater. He had four brothers and six sisters, named William, Benjamin, Thomas, Eliza, Jane, Ann, Susannah, Sarah, Mary and Matilda. He was the oldest of the eleven children.

General Notes
- In 1853, another John Hargreaves married Susannah Cuncliffe at Holme in Cliviger, St John the Divine. This is another person, son of Benjamin.
  
  In 1861, John (30) was a Coke Burner, born Mereclough, living with his parents.
  
  22 May 1869, John was 38 when he married Jane Foulds from Hill Top.
  
  The births of Grace Elizabeth (1868) and Helen Marsden (1871) are another family; the daughters of Daniel Hargreaves and Elizabeth Foulds who married in 1963 at Burnley (civil marriage).
  
  In 1871, John (40), was a quarryman living with Jane (39) a spinner at 4 Hill Top, Burnley.
  
  In 1881, John and Jane (50 & 49) were at Pike Hall, Burnley with two sons John (9) and Herbert (6)
  
  In 1891, John was missing. Jane (Head, M, 59) was at Lower Red Lees with Tom (19) and Herbert (16).
