Andrew was born in July 1824 in Turton and his baptism took place on July 11th, 1824 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Andrew's father was Thomas Dewhurst and his mother was Esther Holt.  His maternal grandparents were John Holt and Ann Crook. He had four brothers named William, Thomas, James and Jonathan.  He was the youngest of the five children.
