Henry's father was John Booth and his mother was Margaret Emmett. His paternal grandparents were Peter Booth and Mary Bond. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Robert, Jonathan, James, Robert, Mary, Margaret and Amelia. He was the youngest of the eight children.
