Maria's father was Thomas Bolton and her mother was Mary Whitaker. She had three brothers and five sisters, named John, Richard, Abraham, Grace, Maria, Ann, Sarah and Mary. She was the youngest of the nine children. She died at the age of 72 in May 1889 in Bolton. Her burial was on May 7th, 1889 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.³⁴

- There was another Maria Bolton (25) in 1841, with Robert (30), and Eliz (11 mo), but our Maria (23) is with Walter (24) and Eliz (6 mo).
  
  Maria (53, Mar) was a Shopkeeper in 1871 at 7 Bamber St, Bolton. Her daughter Ann was with her. She remarried in 1878 and was still a shopkeeper in 1881 at 14 Barlow St, Little Bolton and also recorded at 7 Bamber St.
  
  There is another Richard Turner and Maria of similar age in 1871 (before ours were married) and in 1881. This other Richard is a Stripper and Grinder from Bolton.
