Fritz, known as Fred, was born about 1882 in Tennessee.1   Fred's father was Wilhelm (Henry) Carl Trauernicht and his mother was Catherine Bersche.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Trauernicht and Johanna Knobbe; his maternal grandparents were Louis Bersche and Anna Marie Moser. He had seven brothers and four sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Wilhelm, Johanne, Pa Heine, Theodore, Louis, Edward, Elizabeth, Augusta, Anna, Catherine, Marie and Tenny.  He was the fourth youngest of the thirteen children.
