Augusta was born about 1867 in Tennessee.1   Augusta's father was Wilhelm (Henry) Carl Trauernicht and her mother was Catherine Bersche.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Trauernicht and Johanna Knobbe; her maternal grandparents were Louis Bersche and Anna Marie Moser. She had eight brothers and three sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Wilhelm, Johanne, Pa Heine, Theodore, Louis, Fred, Edward, Elizabeth, Anna, Catherine, Marie and Tenny.  She was the oldest of the thirteen children.
