Geert Jans was born on March 4th, 1787 in Durgerdam.1  Geert Jans' father was Jan Geert Damstra and his mother was Aafke Wiebes.  His paternal grandparents were Geert Jans Damstra and Trijntje Pieters. He had a sister named Dirkje.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 74 on June 1st, 1861 in Wetsens.
