Mathew was born in 1741 in Holton Le Clay, Lincoln, England and his christening took place there on March 29th, 1741.  Mathew's father was William Rack and his mother was Anne Sommerscales. He had three brothers named John, William and Thomas.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
