Elizabeth was born in 1824 in Horkstow, Lincoln, England and her christening took place on February 15th, 1824 in Saint Maurice Church, Horkstow, Lincoln, England.  Elizabeth's father was John Stephenson Rack and her mother was Mary Carr. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Mary, John, William, Sarah, Rebecca, Helen, Mary, Anne, Emma, Hannah and Jane.
