Arthur was born about 1878.  Arthur's father is Daniel Hallas and his mother was Louisa Cowling.  His paternal grandparents are Daniel Hallas and Ann Wilson; his maternal grandparents are David Cowling and Mary. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Ernest, David, Fred, Annie, Lily Alice, Edith and May.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died in January 1959 in Leeds, West Yorkshire..
