Mary was born in 1842 in Eling.  Mary's father is John Osman.  Her paternal grandparents were John Osman and Hannah Forrester. She has eight brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Mark, George, John, Walter, Eliza, Joseph, Noah, Jane and Hannah.  She is the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
