Mark was born in 1832 in Eling.  Mark's father is John Osman.  His paternal grandparents were John Osman and Hannah Forrester. He has seven brothers and three sisters, named Henry, George, John, Walter, Eliza, Joseph, Noah, Mary, Jane and Hannah.  He is the second oldest of the eleven children.
