Vladimir was born in 1847.  Vladimir's father was Alexander_II Nicholoevich Romanov and his mother was Marie of_Hesse- Darmstadt.  His paternal grandparents were Nicholas_I Romanov and Charlotte of_Prussia; his maternal grandparents were Louis_II of_Hesse and_the_Rhine and Wilhelmina of_Baden.  He was the fourth of eight children.  He had five brothers and two sisters, named Nicholas Alexandrovich, Alexander_III Alexandrovich, Alexis, Serge Alexandrovich, Paul Alexandrovich, Alexandra Alexandrovna and Marie Alexandrovna.  He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named George, Olga and Catherine.  He died at the age of 62 in 1909.
