Maria Dulce's father was João de Nobrega do Nascimento and her mother was Matilde da Conceição de Freitas Morna.  Her maternal grandparents were  João de Freitas Morna and  Perpétua Rodrigues.  She is the second of three children.  She has two brothers named João Virgilio and António Magno .
