João Virgilio's father was João de Nobrega do Nascimento and his mother was Matilde da Conceição de Freitas Morna.  His maternal grandparents were  João de Freitas Morna and  Perpétua Rodrigues.  He is the oldest of three children.  He has a brother and a sister, named António Magno  and Maria Dulce.
