John was born in 1895 in South Dakota.  John's father was Henry Wieseler and his mother was Renata Schmidt.  His paternal grandparents were Franz Wieseler and Wilhelmina Forka.  He had three brothers and two sisters, named Frank Henry, Joseph, Ben, Anna Elizabeth and Martha.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.
