Matthew Patrick O'Loughlen

Matthew was born on March 2nd, 1908 in Dubuque, IA. Matthew's father was William Matthew O'Loughlen and his mother was Esther Ina Barth. His paternal grandparents were Patrick Michael O'Loughlin and Mary; his maternal grandparents are John Henry Barth and <Unknown>. He had a brother and two sisters, named Barth, Elizabeth and Mary. He was the third oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 64 on February 10th, 1973 in Madison, SD. His burial was in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetary.

He was an altar boy, Boy Scout, had a paper route, and was an excellent marksman with the .22 rifle. He was also very proficient in Morse Code and related methods of communications. He worked as a laborer at the Kennecott Copper Corporation Mine at Kennecott, Alaska. He signed on an Alaska Stemship Company freighter as a ship's painter, working for his passage to the United States. He worked with copper colered paint and was still trying to the paint out of his hair when he met his sister, Elizabeth, in Seattle.
  
  Matthew married Catherine Marie Balfanz on May 31, 1940. They were married at St. Aloysious Catholic Church in Sauk City, WI. They lived in an apartment on Park Avenue in Prairie du Sac, WI. Matthew was an agent for the Milwaukee Railroad. They bought the contents of the apartment except for personal affects, some bedding, and a cookie jar. They got everything else except the Baby Grand piano which they didn't want even though Matthew could play the piano very well. The couple who owned the furniture were getting a divorce, so they sold it cheap.

Barth was born on January 2nd, 1941 in Baraboo, WI. He died from cancer at the age of 58 on November 28th, 1999 in SIoux Falls, SD. His burial was in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetary.
