Nicholas was born on February 28th, 1886 in West Union, MN.  Nicholas' father was Gottfried Helsper and his mother was Karoline Henrich.  His paternal grandparents were Martin Helsper and Anna Maria Heinz.  He had eight brothers and a sister, named August, Johann, Adolf, William, Bernard, Frederick, Herman, Edward and Theresa.  He was the sixth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 47 on April 25th, 1933 in Dickinson, ND.
