Martin was born on February 8th, 1816 in Kackenberg, Germany.  Martin's father was Johann Martin Helsper and his mother was Catharina Hoen.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Martin Helsper and Eva Heidrig.  He had two brothers and four sisters, named Johann, Wilhelm, Katharina, Margarethe, Eva and Anna.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 76 on June 5th, 1892 in Kackenberg, Germany.

Martin and Anna were married on December 5th, 1844 in Hohn-Schonberg, Germany.  They had nine sons and a daughter, named Wilhelm, Totgeburt, Totgeb., Totgeburt, Totgeburt, Johannes, Totgeburt, Adolf, Gottfried and August.

August was born on January 14th, 1848.

Gottfried was born on August 28th, 1850 in Kackenberg, Germany.  He died at the age of 64 on December 18th, 1914 in Chokio, MN.

Martin and Anna were married on June 14th, 1864 in Hohn-Schonberg, Germany.  They had five sons named Josef, Robert, Johann, Karl and Christian.

Christian was born on March 11th, 1873 in Kackenberg, Germany.  He died at the age of 62 on November 19th, 1935 in Hagen, Germany.
