Catherine Marie Balfanz

Catherine Marie was born on February 4th, 1912 in Madison, WI. Catherine Marie's father was Charles W Balfanz and her mother was Katherine Kaufman. Her paternal grandparents were John Wilhelm Balfanz and Alvina Springstroh; her maternal grandparents were John Joseph Kaufman and Josephine Scherer. She had two brothers and a sister, named Russel John, Victor and Ethel Josephine. She was the third oldest of the four children. She died at the age of 78 on January 3rd, 1991 in Madison, SD.

General Notes
- Charles and Katherine Balfanz's third child was Catherine Marie. Shewas born at 7:30 p.m. on February 4, 1912, at 1040 E. Johnson Street,Madison, WI. She wighed 10 pounds, had blue eyes and light hair. She was baptised at Holy Redeemer church. At 9 months old they moved to Neillsville, WI. At age 3 they moved to Sauk City. Catherine went toschool at St. Aloysious in Sauk City. She roller skated the one mileto school during the warm months and walked when the weather was cold. She went to St. Aloysious from grade 1 thru 6. She went to junior and high school in Prairie du Sac WI. She was chosen as Miss Prairie du Sac in 1930. She went to the capitol at Madison WI, accompanied byone of her high school teathers. She wore a black net dress with silver shoes and purse, and a black velvet cape. She wore a corsage the teacher had given her. There was a dance at the Capitol.
  
  Catherine worked at her cousin's restaurant at Sack City. It was called the Home Restaurant. The following summer she worked at Prairie du Sac, for hiddersons. The next three summers she worked for Butch Brownrigg. After graduation, she worked full time and made $5 a week. She worked from age 18 until 28 when she married.
  
  She met the man of her dreams, Matthew Patrick O'Loughlen at Kaufman's Restaurant in Prairie du Sac. She worked for his cousin, Cliff, andhis wife, Clara. They sold malts, and made short order items. Clifflater committed suicide. Catherine and Matthew had four children.
