John Coates Purnell

John Coates was born in June 1876 in Scarborough, Yorks. John Coates' father was Simon Purnell and his mother was Hannah Coates. His paternal grandparents were Abraham Purnell and Catherine Knowles; his maternal grandfather was John Coates and his maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Appleby. He has two brothers and two sisters, named William, Edward, Sarah Ann and Caroline. He is the fourth oldest of the five children. He has a half-brother and two half-sisters, named William Simon, Sarah Elizabeth and Mary Ann.
