Paulette was born on August 16th, 1955. Paulette's father was Paul Johannes van Blerk and her mother was Veronica Louisa Le Roux. Her paternal grandparents were Petrus Gerhadus Louw van Blerck and Sarah Margaretha Joubert. She has two brothers and a sister, named Gerhard, Le Roux and Louisa. She is the second youngest of the four children.
