Maria was born on September 9th, 1908. Maria's father was Petrus Gerhadus Louw van Blerck and her mother was Sarah Margaretha Joubert. Her paternal grandparents were Siemon (Paatjie) Petrus van Blerck and Jacomina Hendrina Louw. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Simon, Jan, Petrus, Stephanus, Jacobus, Paul, Sarah, Jacomina and Rachel. She was the fifth youngest of the ten children. She died at the age of 85 on April 20th, 1994.
