Jan was born on October 16th, 1903. Jan's father was Petrus Gerhadus Louw van Blerck and his mother was Sarah Margaretha Joubert. His paternal grandparents were Siemon (Paatjie) Petrus van Blerck and Jacomina Hendrina Louw. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Simon, Petrus, Stephanus, Jacobus, Paul, Sarah, Jacomina, Maria and Rachel. He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 83 on September 3rd, 1987.
