Jacob was born in 1738.  Jacob's father was Peter Abshire and his mother was Eve Appinger.  His paternal grandparents were Abraham Abshire and Phobe Wright. He had five brothers named Luke, Christian, William, William and Abraham.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
