Ann was born about 1846 in Castleford, W. Yorkshire.1   Ann's father was Joseph Etherington and her mother was Charlotte Ware.  Her maternal grandparents were John Ware and Hannah Deane. She had a sister named Eliza.  She was the older of the two children.
