Jane was born in 1878.  Jane's father was David Thomson and her mother is Janet Crichton.  Her paternal grandparents were Walter Thomson and Jane Adamson; her maternal grandparents are William Crichton and Elizabeth Leitch.  She has five brothers and three sisters, named Walter, William, David, Robert, Alexander, Elizabeth, Janet and Catherine.  She is the fifth oldest of the nine children.
