David was born in 1896.  David's father was William Oman and his mother was Christina Manson.  His paternal grandparents are George Oman and Harriet MacKay; his maternal grandparents were David Manson and Janet Mowat.  He had two sisters named Henrietta and Jessie.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
