Maryann was born in 1890. Maryann's father was Malcolm MacDonald and her mother was Margaret McKinnon.  Her paternal grandparents were Archibald MacDonald and Flora Kennedy; her maternal grandparents were Hugh McKinnon and Margaret MacColl.  She had four brothers and three sisters, named Archibald, Hugh, Malcolm, Allan, Flora, Maggie and Flora.  She was the youngest of the eight children.  She had a half-sister named Betsy.
