Peter was born in 1855.  Peter's father is Peter MacKenzie and his mother is Jane Begg.  His paternal grandparents are Peter MacKenzie and Janet Gow; his maternal grandparents are Peter Begg and Catherine Smith.  He has four brothers and two sisters, named John, Andrew, Donald, William, Margaret and Catherine.  He is the second oldest of the seven children.
